Yellow-headed day geckos arrive at Dartmoor Zoo

These 3 adorable little geckos are just 5 weeks old and we are pleased to welcome them to their new home at Dartmoor Zoo.
As yet they are too young to sex but we are hoping for a boy and 2 girls so that in the future we can be a part of the ESB (European Studbook) breeding programme. They are classified as endangered and can only be found in a small area of Madagascar. Breeding programmes to increase population numbers of threatened species are a vital part of the conservation work that zoos are involved in, and must be done hand in hand with education about the issues.
They'll be living in the Close Encounter room with our other reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. So do come and say hello to these little cuties next time you visit!
