Are you aged 14 – 18 and looking for something exciting and rewarding that will look great on your CV?
Why not join us as a DZP Cadet? Cadets will be at the forefront of our public engagement activities throughout our busy summer holiday periods, will learn a great deal about the animals living here at DZP, and will get an insight into the behind the scenes action around a zoo!
The Cadets programme will involve taking part in public engagement activities and supporting the Discovery and Learning team throughout the busy holiday periods. Activities will include, but are not limited to:
- Posting blogs/vlogs about your experiences
- Manning visitor information points and sensory educational stalls
- Close encounters
- Handling reptiles, invertebrates, and small mammals.
- Learning all about the animals on site.
- Face painting
- Public engagement around the zoo
- Fundraising days
By the end of the Summer here with us, we are confident that you will have developed your communication skills, as well as your knowledge on zoos and animals to a high standard.
Please be aware this is not an animal keeping experience and although some contact with animals is included it is not the primary focus. There is a cost incurred with this project. Each Cadet will pay £200 for the Summer period at the zoo. This will go towards the cost of training and a DZP T-Shirt. In addition to this, you will receive a certificate and letter of reference which will look great on any University application.
To apply, please fill out the expression of interest form which you can download here and send back to email@example.com. Applicants will then be invited to meet with the Discovery, Learning and Research Department, to ensure that we all get to know each other before the training day, and to determine what activities will suit you best!
Successful interviewees will then be asked to attend one of two training days.
The finer details
Cadets must be either at least 14 years old, or turning 14 throughout the summer they hope to join us at the zoo. The price of joining will be £200. This will cover the costs of training and a T-Shirt.
