Von der Decken’s Hornbill Welcomed to Dartmoor Zoo

This month we welcomed Tufani, a six-year-old Von der Decken’s Hornbill to the zoo, who will be sharing an enclosure with Spike and Roxy the turacos. This Hornbill is native to eastern African regions including Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and Tanzania. Hornbills are known for their interesting nesting technique involving sealing the female in a tree cavities using a mud and saliva wall, leaving a gap just big enough for the male to pass food through.
Tufani is settling in well after arriving during storm Ciara.
