Welcome to Dartmoor Zoo, winner of the Eden Channel's Top Wildlife Attraction of the Year 2011, and subject of the the Hollywood movie We Bought A Zoo directed by Cameron Crowe (Jerry Maguire, Almost Famous), starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with some stunning views of the surrounding countryside, with a fantastic collection of animals, Dartmoor Zoological Park represents a unique family day out in the South Hams of Devon.

Our animals include tigers, lion, lynx, cheetah, bears, wolves, tapir, capybara, racoons, meerkats, monkeys, a fantastic collection of bugs and reptiles and much more.

Our Education Centre is manned by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers providing engaging educational experiences for school visits and daily visitors alike. The animals in the centre include a fascinating varietry of stick insects, a great collection of snakes, tortoises, poison dart frogs and geckos, many of which feature in our regular Close Encounters making Dartmoor Zoo an ideal venue for learning outside the classroom.

We work very hard to ensure that the development of the zoo does not have an adverse effect on the beautiful woodland environment which makes it quite unique among zoos. As a consequence we have plenty of natural open spaces for family fun where the kids can run free. Visitors are also very welcome to bring a picnic and simply enjoy the surroundings.

We have regular daily events such as public talks at feeding times, animal encounters, falconry displays and kids activities during the holidays such as quiz-trails and face-painting.

The Jaguar Restaurant is a great place to stop off for a coffee and cake or a freshly prepared lunch and there's space set aside for the under-fives to roll around with toys. It’s also the centre of a fantastic events venue for conferences, family days, kids parties and probably the best wedding venue in the region.

So, immerse yourself in great family day out with the kids: see the big cats feed, hear the wolves howl and feel the snakes wriggle through your fingers in Close Encounters. With regular public talks, a fantastic falconry display, kids activities, and a great family restaurant, Dartmoor Zoo is the ideal place to spend a day in the beautiful South Hams of Devon.
