Welcome to Dartmoor Zoo – loads of family fun just 15 minutes from Plymouth.
Set in 33 acres of beautiful woodland with some stunning views of the surrounding countryside and a fantastic collection of animals, Dartmoor Zoo is a unique family day out in the beautiful South Hams of Devon.
Immerse yourself in a fun day out with the kids: see the big cats feed, hear the wolves howl and feel the snakes wriggle through your fingers in Close Encounters.
Follow the daily timetable of events including public talks at feeding times and animal encounters, with falconry displays and kids activities during the holidays such as quiz-trails and face-painting. And when you need a rest, visit the Jaguar Restaurant for a freshly prepared lunch or a hot drink and delicious cake made right here on site.
Our animal attractions include tigers, lion, lynx, cheetah, bears, wolves, tapir, capybara, racoons, meerkats, monkeys, a fantastic collection of bugs and reptiles and much more making Dartmoor Zoo a unique family attraction within easy reach of Plymouth.
We work very hard to preserve our beautiful woodland environment. As a consequence we have plenty of natural open spaces for family fun where the kids can run free. Visitors are also very welcome to bring a picnic and simply enjoy the surroundings.
So, for one of the best days out in Devon visit Dartmoor Zoo, Winner of the Eden Channel's Top Wildlife Attraction of the Year 2011, and subject of the Hollywood movie “We Bought A Zoo” starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson.

Keep in Touch with Dartmoor Zoo:
There are several ways to keep up-to-date with life here at the zoo:
On 25th March, as part of our work with Kim and Shaun Ellis of The Wolf Centre, we had to move 3 Timber wolves temporarily to allow some work to be carried out on their enclosure.
So, how do you move a wolf?! Click here to find out!
We are very proud to announce that Xena, our meerkat mum in residence has given birth to 4 babies (called kits). They are now 3 weeks old and super cute!
Read the article in The Herald here.
Head Keeper Mike Downman said: 'Mum Xena is a very experienced mother, and on a weekend when we're all celebrating great mums it's good to give her a bit of recognition."
It was lovely to celebrate over the Mother's Day weekend, and of course they are still here, getting more and more adventurous every day!
