Water Shortage Update

CEO, Dr David Gibson has issued the following statement:

Hello, my name is David Gibson. I’m the Chief Executive Officer here at Dartmoor Zoo. I wanted to give you all an update on our current situation. As you’ll be aware, the country is in drought just now. We’re in a fourth heat wave of the year. This is causing severe water shortages, and we’re suffering at Dartmoor Zoo because of that.

One of the boreholes that supplies our water has now run dry, so that’s leaving us running on about 50% capacity.
We’re still open and we can still accommodate our visitors, but we’re prioritising our animals above everything else. We have had to make a couple of changes for the time being, and for the foreseeable future, we’re operating on pre-booked tickets only (annual pass holders can also pre-book via our general admissions page). This allows us to phase the load on our infrastructure through the day, and ensure that we can continue to offer a safe and fun experience for all. We will also be closing access to our outside toilets, though our Jaguar Restaurant toilets will still be available during your visit.

I’d like to thank everybody that has been kind enough to donate water to us. As thoughtful as that is, it’s not actually that necessary. We have enough water on site to look after the animals. They’re absolutely fine. The things we have to be careful of though are things like flushing toilets. So we’d like to thank everybody for the continued support.

We are here, we are open, but we urge you to go to our website and pre-book tickets before coming to the Zoo.
