Our home educator days are back for the new academic year! Following a focus group with home educator families over the summer, we have revamped and relaunched our home educator days to make sure they are meeting the needs of the community.
There has been a bit of baby boom here at the zoo recently so what better theme than celebrating our baby animals and learning all about the importance of breeding programmes with tours, hands-on activities, keeper encounters and challenges to enjoy throughout the day.
What’s happening?
- Welcome talks: come along to the Jaguar Suite to be introduced to the topic of the day and find out all the activities on offer
- Baby animal tour: visit the capybaras, tapirs, meerkats, marmosets and Amur leopards to see all our latest arrivals.
- Keeper meet and greets: meet a keeper to find out how they care for our animals (times and locations advertised on the day).
- Staff stations: our knowledgeable team will have activity stations at locations across the zoo covering activities on breeding programmes, life cycles and more.
- Breeding programme activity: discover why managed breeding programmes matter and how they help protect species.
- Trail and scavenger hunt: collect your trail during the welcome talk and explore as you complete the challenge.
- The Pod: drop in for more activities and to explore our amazing artefacts.
Start your day with a welcome talk
Welcome talks will take place in the Jag Suite at 10.30am, 11am and 11.30am. Come along at the time that best suits your arrival. We’ll introduce our new-style Home Educator Days, give out the trail and scavenger hunt and introduce some of the exciting plans we have coming up in the year ahead.

Terms and conditions
- We are not able to accept annual passes for educational visits. Our home educator days fall under this. Entry is heavily discounted and includes access to a bespoke programme of activities exclusively for home educating families visiting on the day.
- One £17.50 entry rate is available per booking. Any additional members of the group will need to be booked on the accompanying adult and children rates. This includes one day admission and is not inclusive of our annual pass. Pre-booking is essential for the event to get the special £17.50 rate.
- This special discounted price is only available on Home Educator days and cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.
